Public Health Director Gives Flut Shot Advice

(Undated) -- With flu activity picking up in Illinois, the State Department of Public Health is urging families to make sure they get their flu shot. Public Health Director Dr. Lamar Hasbrouck says it's definitely not too late to get your flu shot, even amid concerns the current vaccine doesn't cover all strains of the virus. Hasbrouck emphasized people don't get the flu from the flu shot. People with flu symptoms should stay home for 24 hours after the fever is gone. It's recommended that everyone over six months of age get the flu vaccine. Complications from the flu are most likely to hit the elderly, those with underlying health conditions, young children and pregnant women.
