Madigan Appeals Pension Ruling
(Chicago, IL) -- The state is officially appealing a ruling that declared the pension law unconstitutional. Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed a notice of appeal yesterday. It comes less than a week after a judge in Springfield shot the law down. The judge says the state's constitution is clear and absolute when it says pension benefits can't be diminished or impaired. Unions challenged the law because it would've forced current state workers to stay on the job longer and reduced cost-of-living benefits for retired state workers.
