Cost Of Thanksgiving Dinner Rises But Remains Economical

(Undated) -- The cost of what goes into making a traditional Thanksgiving dinner may be up slightly but this special holiday meal is still a bargain. Deputy Chief Economist John Anderson of the American Farm Bureau Federation says one reason is the price per pound for a whole turkey has barely changed since last year. At about five-dollars per person, Anderson said Thanksgiving dinner actually costs less than most fast food meals. The Farm Bureau's annual price survey of Thanksgiving ingredients shows some of the items costing more this year include sweet potatoes and dairy products like whipping cream and milk. Prices for vegetables like carrots, celery and green peas are also higher.
