NHTSA Calls For National Air Bag Recall

(Undated) -- Federal regulators are calling on Japanese air bag maker Takata to issue a nationwide recall of millions of vehicles. David Friedman with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the previous recall affected vehicles in high temperature and high humidity areas like Florida and Hawaii. NHTSA is calling for a nationwide recall because of an incident involving a Ford vehicle in North Carolina. Takata air bag inflators have been known to rupture in crashes and four deaths in the U.S. have been linked to the explosions. The agency says vehicles made by Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Mazda and BMW should be included in a national recall.
