Heart Scan May Not Benefit Diabetic Patients
(Undated) -- The routine heart scan has been found to be ineffective in reducing heart disease among diabetics. A study published online in the Journal of the American Medical Association selected 900 diabetics at random to undergo heart scans or pursue standard diabetes management. After four years, some of the participants in the study received treatment for high cholesterol, but the screenings did not result in fewer cardiac events. Researchers concluded that the benefits of a heart scan were not significant enough to justify a change in the current standard of care for diabetics
