Senate Moves On Minimum Wage Hike Despite GOP Pushback
(Springfield, IL) -- Lawmakers are moving forward with a plan to raise the minimum wage, despite Republican push back. The latest proposal would boost the wage to ten-bucks-an-hour next July for workers over the age of 18. They'd get a 50-cent raise in 2016, and another in 2017 if the proposal clears the House and Senate. The measure passed a senate committee yesterday and is headed to the floor for a vote but key Republican leaders say they won't support it. They're asking that the measure be part of a package that includes pro-business reforms.
