Two Arrested After Driver Asks Police For Help
(Canton, IL) -- A traffic stop in Canton resulted in the arrest of two Canton residents last week. Canton police say that officers were patrolling in the area of 1st and locust when a male exited the vehicle and asked for help Friday morning at 12:30. The male was identified as 35-year old Travis A. Frame. Police say that Frame had a cut under his eye and a bloody nose. Officers say that a female then exited the vehicle and identified as 32-year old April L. Egart who had a small scratch near her right eye. Frame told police that Egart had struck him in the face with one of her high heels while he was driving the vehicle. Egart told authorities that Frame was hitting her while they were on their way home from Creve Couer. Both Frame and Egart were arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where they were processed. Frame was charged with DUI, DUI over .08 and illegal transportation of alcohol. Egart was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis under 2.5 grams after the items were located inside the vehicle. Canton police K-9 Jack alerted on the vehicle. Egart was taken to Graham Hospital to be treated for injuries and was given a notice to appear and released with a December Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Frame posted his driver's license, a $100 cash bond and a $20 processing fee and was then released with a December Fulton County Court date as well.
Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest And Several Charges For Hudson Man
(Canton, IL) -- A man from Hudson, Illinois is facing charges after Canton police conducted a traffic stop over the weekend in Canton. Police say they received a reckless driving complaint about a vehicle that was northbound on South 5th Avenue. Police located the vehicle at the intersection of 5th and Pine. Authorities identified the driver as 28-year old Matthew L. Heap. An investigation determined that Heap had an expired insurance and also that he had been drinking. He was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was charged with DUI, DUI over .08 and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. He posted his driver's license, a $100 cash bond and a $20 processing fee before being released with a December Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Heap's vehicle was towed from the scene.
Burglary Suspect Arrested
(Peoria, IL) -- Police in Peoria arrested a Galesburg man in connection with a series of burglaries that have occurred in both Galesburg and Peoria. Police say they arrested Marcus Bland on Wednesday. Authorities say that he was in the act of committing another burglary. He is accused of taking copper from several unoccupied residences in both Galesburg and Peoria. Bland's bond has been set at $150,000.
Judge Denies Appeal For Husband Who Murdered His Wife
(Peoria, IL) -- A Peorian who has been sentenced to 55 years of jail time for killing his wife last year is not going to be allowed to change his guilty plea. Phouvone Sophanavong entered a guilty plea in connection with the death of Langdao Phangthong. The Peoria Journal Star has reported that a judge in Tazewell County Circuit Court denied his appeal. The homicide occurred in November of last year at a OSF St. Francis Medical Center parking deck after she was kidnapped in Pekin while outside of her job.
Ringleader Gets Life In Double Murder
(Joliet, IL) -- The convicted ringleader in a plot to rob and then strangle two Joliet men last year is going to spend life in prison. Joshua Miner pleaded guilty to working with three others to lure Eric Glover and Terrance Rankins to a house on Hickory Street in Joliet. The two were robbed and then strangled by Miner. Bethany McKee was sentenced to life last week for her role in the crime and Alisa Massaro is serving ten years after pleading guilty to a lesser charge. Adam Landerman is still awaiting trial.
Woman Suing After Getting Ticketed For Being Topless
(Chicago, IL) -- A woman is suing Chicago after receiving a ticket for being topless. The lawsuit filed yesterday in federal court says Sonoko Tagami was cited for violating the city's "indecent exposure" ordinance while participating in an August "Go Topless" event. Her lawyer claims the citation is against the basic rights protected by the First and Fourth Amendments. He says the ultimate goal of the lawsuit is to get the ordinance changed.
