State Details Plans To Improve Inmate Mental Health Treatment
(Bloomington, IL) -- To satisfy a federal court, the Illinois prison system will add four mental-health treatment units and three-hundred-50 employees to treat inmates who are mentally ill. The Department of Corrections plan includes providing more than 12-hundred beds for mentally ill inmates, in addition to renovating the Dixon, Pontiac and Logan prisons and reopening the Joliet youth prison. The Logan Correctional Center is located in Lincoln. The changes were announced after lawyers for a group of inmates asked why the state was slow to make the improvements demanded by a May 2013 court order.
