VA Focuses On Returning Vets
(Undated) -- As many as 20-percent of veterans who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq have been affected by a Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI. Dr. Timothy O'Leary of the Department of Veterans Affairs says a TBI can be a severe injury from a hard blow to the head. Additionally, Dr. O'Leary says, there is a direct correlation between veterans suffering from a TBI and then developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. That can lead to depression, self medication and ultimately substance abuse. He says it's critical for veterans and their families to know that there's help and to reach out and get that help.
