Canton Man Charged With Domestic Battery
(Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing charges after police in Canton responded to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of West Old Locust Street over the weekend. Police say they responded to 833 1/2 West Old Locust Saturday morning at about 1 and could hear a female screaming for help inside the residence. A third party let police inside the home. Officers observed that a 20-year old Canton female, the victim, was bleeding from around the eye. They also observed that a window had been broken. An investigation revealed that the suspect, 25-year old Nicholas C. Pacheco had punched the window from the outside while the victim was inside the home near the window. The 20-year old Canton woman was taken to Graham hospital to be treated for her injuries after being treated at the scene by Fulton County Ambulance personnel. Pacheco had left the residence before police arrived. He was located inside a home at 980 West Old Locust. The resident of the home, a 29-year old Canton woman, told police she did not know Pacheco. He was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on charges of domestic battery and trespass to a residence. Pacheco was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.
Canton Police Charge Canton Man With Possession Of Marijuana
(Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing drug charges after police in Canton responded to a possible injury to an individual outside of a downtown Canton tavern. Police say they responded to Jack's Bar Saturday morning at just before 1:30 and upon arrival found two men who appeared to be arguing outside the bar on the sidewalk. A further investigation found that one of the men, who was identified as 26-year old Shad A. Carrison to be in possession of pot. Carrison was then arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on a charge of possession of cannabis under 2.5 grams. While he was being processed, Carrison was allegedly threatening physical harm to himself and was taken to Graham Hospital to be evaluated. He was given a notice to appear and released with a December Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.
Canton Teen Arrested After Traffic Stop
(Canton, IL) -- A Canton teen is facing charges after police stopped a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of South 7th Avenue. After making the stop, the driver of the vehicle was identified as 19-year old Jason M.C. Carson. An investigation revealed that Carson had a driver's license that had expired. He was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed. Carson was given a notice to appear and released with a December Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.
Four Years For Former County Treasurer
(Aledo, IL) -- The former treasurer of Mercer County in western Illinois has been sentenced to four-years in prison for robbing the county's treasury. Mike Bertelsen apologized on Monday before being sentenced for taking 13-thousand-dollars from the county fund for its 911 emergency system. Bertelsen pleaded guilty this summer to official misconduct and theft charges and has reimbursed 13-thousand-dollars to the county, plus eight-hundred dollars he took from the Republican Central Committee in Mercer County.
Former Teacher Sent To Prison After Having Sex With Student
(Belvidere, IL) -- A former Belvidere North high school teacher is headed to prison for criminal sexual assault. Jenee Blackert pleaded guilty to having sex with a 17-year-old female student. She was sentenced to four-years behind bars. She'll also have to register as a sex-offender when she's released.
