Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges For Teen

(Canton, IL) -- A Canton teen is facing drug charges after being arrested last week in Canton. Police say they stopped a vehicle after it turned in front of the squad car, failing to yield at the intersection. The vehicle was turning onto left White Court from Elm Street. The stop was made at the intersection of White Court and Pine Street on Monday, October 6th. The driver was identified as a 16-year old male from Canton. Police were assisted by the Fulton County Sheriff's Departments K-9 Bolo, who alerted on the vehicle. A plastic baggy that allegedly contained marijuana was found in a child's car seat. The bag had approximately 8 grams of pot inside of it. He was also found to be in possession of a grinder used to grind cannabis. He was taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on several charges. The charges included possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis over 2.5 grams but under 10 grams, failure to yield at a stop sign, restricted time on a graduated driver and for being out past curfew, a city ordinance citation. He was given a juvenile intake referral and then released to the custody of his parents.

Domestic Disturbance Complaint Ends In Arrest

(Canton, IL) -- A Canton woman is facing charges after Canton police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance over the weekend. Police say they responded to the disturbance in the 500 block of North 10th Avenue Sunday afternoon at just after 5. Officers say they met with the victim, a 45-year old Canton female upon arrival. She told authorities that a 20-year old family member, Denisha N. Evans threw a cup of coffee on to her and also scratched her arms during an altercation. Police did observe the coffee stains on the victim’s shirt and also the scratches on her arms. After an investigation, police arrested Evans. She was taken to the Canton Police Department where she was processed on a domestic battery charge. Evans was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.

Canton Man Arrested For Punching Windshield

(Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing charges after he allegedly damaged a vehicle over the weekend. Canton police say they were dispatched to the parking lot at C & C Car Care Saturday night at just past 8:30. Several witnesses told them they observed a male who was later identified as 27-year old Derek A. Durrette punch the windshield of a vehicle in the parking lot located at 201 East Elm Street. The vehicle was owned by a 39-year old Delevan woman. The owner was located by Canton police. Durrette was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on a charge of criminal damage to property. He posted a $150 cash bond and a $20 processing fee and was then released. Durrette has a November Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.

London Mills Man Arrested For Active Warrant

(Canton, IL) -- A London Mills man, who was wanted on an active warrant, turned himself into Canton police over the weekend. 42-year old Robin T. Richeneker went to the Canton Police Department Sunday afternoon at just after 4:45 and turned himself in on a 2013 Fulton County Misdemeanor Warrant for domestic battery. Richeneker was then arrested and processed. He posted a $500 cash bond and a $20 processing fee before being released. Richeneker was given a November Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.

Fire Leaves One Hospitalized

(Peoria Heights, IL) -- A fire Monday afternoon in Peoria Heights left a man hospitalized. Firefighters from Peoria Heights were dispatched to the home located in the 1000 block of Sciot yesterday afternoon at about 5. A driver passing by noticed flames coming from the home and then noticed the homeowner standing in the doorway. The driver of the car as well as a friend then helped the man to safety. He was taken to a Peoria hospital to be treated. The fire remains under investigation.

Shooting Remains Under Investigation

(Peoria, IL) -- A shooting that occurred last week in Peoria remains under investigation. Peoria police say it occurred close to the corner of Northeast Perry Avenue and Abington Street Friday night at about 6:15. Authorities say that a 19-year old woman and a friend were walking near the railroad tracks close to Glen Oak Park when they heard a noise that they describe as like a balloon popping. The victim, the 19-year old female, told police she then felt a burning sensation in her back. The two then flagged down a car and went to a Peoria hospital to be treated for her wounds that appeared to be non-life threatening. Authorities say they have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting incident.
