Pool Of Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile Virus Near Astoria
(Astoria, IL) -- A pool of mosquitoes collected near Astoria have been confirmed as testing positive for West Nile Virus. That’s according to Damon Roberson, Administrator of the Fulton County Health Department. Roberson says that the mosquitoes were collected by Western Illinois students. The Fulton County Health Department is working in conjunction with Western Illinois University to trap and test mosquitoes in the south western area of Fulton County. Roberson added that West Nile virus activity has been present in the state and that the local health department expected to see activity again this year. Currently, the Fulton County Health Department has not been notified of any human cases of West Nile Virus that has occurred in 2014.
