Scammers Pose As Government Officials

(Undated) -- Con artists are posing as IRS agents and trying to get people to pay up on unpaid taxes. They say people will be locked up or have their bank accounts frozen if they refuse to settle the claims. Attorney General Lisa Madigan says people should be on the lookout for these types of calls, which often come from 202 area codes. Remember, it's never a good idea to give your personal or banking information out to strangers over the phone.
