UI Pays To Settle Sex-Assault Case
(Champaign, IL) -- The U of I agreed to dish out nearly 80-thousand dollars to settle a sexual assault case. A female student went to the U.S. Department of Education on the university claiming officials had minimized her sexual assault and harassment complaints from 2011, even after she'd produced evidence to support the accusations. Members of a fraternity allegedly passed pictures and videos of the assault. According to the "Chicago Tribune," the university agreed to settle last year but didn't admit to doing anything wrong. They also agreed to make changes to the student discipline code and to provide better staff training to handle sex assault cases.
