Two Individuals From Canton Facing Charges After Canton Traffic Stop (Canton, IL) -- Two people are facing charges after Canton police conducted a traffic stop earlier this week. Canton police say they spotted a vehicle being driven by 20-year old Jennifer L. Burgess of Canton near the intersection of Avenue F and West Locust Street. Officers say they were aware that Burgess was wanted on an active warrant. Police then made the traffic stop. Burgess was wanted on a 2012 Fulton County Warrant, failure to appear for possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested on the charge. Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located a hitter pipe used to smoke cannabis. It was determined that the hitter pipe belonged to a passenger in the vehicle, 25-year old Nicholas C. Pacheco of Canton. He was also arrested. Both were taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed. Pacheco was given a notice to appear and released with an October Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Burgess was unable to post bond and was then taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.
Teen Sentenced After Reaching Plea Agreement With Authorities In October 2013 Shooting (Peoria, IL) -- A teen from Peoria was in Peoria County Circuit Court earlier this week and was sentenced in connection with a shooting that took place in October of last year. 16-year old Robert Sanders entered a guilty plea to charges of aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm as part of a plea bargain with authorities. Charges of attempted murder were dismissed. After entering the guilty plea, Sanders was sentenced to 16-years of prison time yesterday. Police believe that the shooting may have been gang related.
Peorian Charged In String Of Holdups Found Unfit To Stand Trial (Peoria, IL) -- A Peoria man who has already served time for a robbery and is facing additional charges has been found unfit to stand trial. 36-year old Jerry A. Johnson was found unfit to stand trial during a fitness review that took place on Thursday. Johnson is accused in a string of holdups at the same Marathon gas station this past May. He is currently being treated by the Department of Human Services. Johnson is due back in Peoria County Circuit Court for a hearing next month.
Springfield Custodian Charged With Possessing Child Porn (Springfield, IL) -- A Springfield area school janitor faces a bond hearing this morning after he was charged with child porn. Jacob Stark, who has worked at the Capital Area Career Center for five years, was arrested Thursday morning before students arrived. The school's director says the alleged suspect rebuilt an old school computer and used it to access pornography in a secluded part of the building. She went on to say that students were never in any danger.
