(Morton, IL) -- One state rep wants to give the pumpkin a bit more significance in Illinois. Keith Summer has introduced a bill that would make pumpkin pie the official pie of the state. Illinois is already dubbed the pumpkin capital of the world, thanks to the central Illinois town of Morton. There's a Nestle plant there that pumps out more than 82-percent of the world's canned pumpkin products. Pumpkin farming is big business in Illinois, bringing in more than 33-million-dollars-a-year.
