Canton Friendship Festival Continues

(Canton, IL) -- The Canton Friendship Festival is over halfway done. Activities continue tonight on the festival grounds. The events include the longest ponytail contest beginning at 5:30 with the shopping cart races that are sponsored by Canton Hy-Vee beginning at 6. Halfway to Wasteland will be providing music on the stage beginning at 7 tonight. The annual parade will get things underway on Saturday. This year's Parade Marshal was to be Astronaut Steve Nagel. Nagel passed away last month after a long bought with cancer. Dan Kumer, the President of the Canton Friendship Festival Committee says that the Canton native and Canton High School graduate will be remembered during the parade. Wendy Hurst will also serve as a Parade Marshal for the annual parade. The festival will wrap up tomorrow night with a free Christian concert on the stage of the festival grounds by About A Mile beginning at 6 p.m. They will be followed by Dove Award winning group Newsong.
