September Has Been Colder and Wetter Than Normal

(Undated) -- Although September has gotten off to a cold, wet start, we shouldn't see freezing temperatures until next month. The average statewide temperature this past week was 67 degrees in Illinois, which is about three degrees below normal. State Climatologist Jim Angel says Northern Illinois usually sees its first freezing temps in early October, while central and southern Illinois hit 32 degrees in mid-October. There's been plenty of rain so far this month. The heaviest amounts this past week were seen in western and central Illinois, including Fulton County, where totals ranged from three to eight inches plus.
