More Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile In Fulton County

(Canton, IL) -- More mosquitoes collected in Fulton County have been confirmed to have tested positive for West Nile Virus. The latest collection to have tested positive were collected in Vermont. That’s according to Damon Roberson, Administrator of the Fulton County Health Department. Roberson says that the mosquitoes were collected on September 4th by Western Illinois University students working in conjunction with Western Illinois University to trap and test mosquitoes in the south western area of Fulton County. The best way to prevent West Nile disease or any other mosquito-borne illness is to reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home and to take personal precautions to avoid mosquito bites. The precautions include avoid being outdoors when mosquitoes are most active, especially between dusk and dawn. Use prevention methods whenever mosquitoes are present. When outdoors, wear shoes and socks, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt and apply insect repellent that incoludes DEET, picardin or oil of lemon eucalyptus according to label instructions. Consult a physician before using repellents on infants. Also make sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens and eliminate all sources of standing water.
