Quinn, Rauner In Close-Range Verbal Tussle
(Chicago, IL) -- In a side-by-side appearance filled with barbed criticisms and pointed attacks on ethics and budget plans, Governor Pat Quinn and Republican challenger Bruce Rauner faced off in joint appearance before the "Chicago Tribune" editorial board. Quinn slashed at Rauner's business dealings with his private equity firm, saying he "made a fortune out of the misfortune" of everyday people in the companies his firm took over. Rauner blasted Quinn over allegations of patronage hiring at IDOT, saying the only difference between Quinn and former governor Rod Blagojevich "is the hair." Rauner slammed Quinn for raising taxes and inflating the state budget, while Quinn fired back that Rauner's vague plans to fund education show he doesn't understand arithmetic.
