Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest Of Iowa Man (Canton, IL) -- An Iowa man is facing drug charges after a traffic stop in Canton last weekend. Police say they conducted the stop after spotting the driver of the vehicle not wearing a seat belt Saturday morning at about 1:30. After making the stop, Canton K-9 Sheiba was brought in to help with the investigation and ale4rted on the vehicle. Police identified the driver as 26-year old Shawn P. Pappalardo of Burglinton. He was found to be in possession of a controlled substance, prescription pills that did not belong to him. Pappalardo was then arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.
Two Arrested On Drug Charges (Canton, IL) -- Two Canton residents are facing drug charges after being arrested earlier this week in Canton, Officers say they spotted the two Monday morning at about 1:30 walking in the street in the 300 block of East Linn Street. Police say they knew one of the two was under 18. The 16-year old Canton female was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The other individual, identified as 19-year old Jason M.C. Carson, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and with a controlled substance. Both were arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department Carson was later given a non traffic complaint in regard to the unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia charge and was then taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown for the unlawful possession of a controlled substance charge. The juvenile was given a juvenile intake referral and then released to the custody of her Mother.
Canton Woman Cited Following Traffic Stop (Canton, IL) -- A Canton woman is facing charges after she was found driving with a suspended driver's license. Canton police say they conducted a traffic stop after officers conducted a routine registration check and found that the owner of the vehicle had a suspended license. Police then conducted the traffic stop Saturday afternoon at about 1:10. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 20-year old Bryanna S. Shaffer. She was cited for the violation and then given a notice to appear before being released. Shaffer was given an October Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.
Tip Leads To Arrest (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing charges after police were dispatched to a business located along North Main Street on the report of an intoxicated patron. Police say they were dispatched to Walgreen's Drug Store Monday afternoon at about 5:45. By the time authorities got to the store, the patron had left. Officials at Walgreen's told police that the suspect had left in a pickup truck. Officers were able to locate the vehicle matching the description in the parking lot at Chubb's Liquor Store. The man was identified as 50-year old David O. Schaffer. Shaffer was found to be wanted on a 2009 Fulton County Warrant, failure to appear contempt of court. There was also a body attachment warrant for the same charge. Schaffer was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed. After posting a $700 cash bond and a $20 processing fee, he was released. Schaffer is due in Fulton County Circuit Court in Lewistown in October.
Warrant Arrest Made (Canton, IL) -- A rural Canton man wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested last weekend. Police say they conducted a traffic stop with the driver pulling into the parking lot at USCO along South 5th Avenue. After making the stop, officers identified the driver as 50-year old Matthew S. Donnelly. Donnelly was found to be wanted on a 2013 Fulton County Warrant failure to appear possession of cannabis. During their investigation, Donnelly was found to be in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed. He was given a non traffic complaint on the new charges and a notice to appear. Donnelly posted $200 cash bond and a $20 processing fee for the warrant. He was then released after being given October Fulton County Court dates on the new charges and for the warrant.
Canton Woman Arrested For Outstanding Warrant (Canton, IL) -- A Canton woman wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested earlier this week. Canton police say that 65-year old Darlene M. Mortimer turned herself in at the Canton Police Department Tuesday afternoon at about 12:45. Mortimer was wanted on a 2005 Fulton County Warrant failure to appear pay order deceptive practice. She was arrested and processed for the warrant. Mortimer then posted a $300 cash bond and a $20 processing fee before being released with an October Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.
Teen Charged With Obstructing Peace Officer (Canton, IL) -- A Canton juvenile is facing resisting charges after police were dispatched to a report of suspicious individuals in the area of 8th and Myrtle earlier this week. Offices say they responded to the scene and located several individuals who were walking westbound on East Olive Street toward North 10th Avenue. Officers exited their squad car and attempted to speak with the subjects. One of the individuals, a 17-year old Canton female refused to give officers her name. She was then charged with obstructing a peace officer. She was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where she was processed on the charge. The teen was given a juvenile intake referral and then released to the custody of her father.
Illinois Man Found Dead In Iowa (Fairfield, IA) -- Police in Fairfield, Iowa say an Illinois man was found dead in an abandoned house Sunday. The man was identified as Washington native Christopher Freeman. The man's death does not appear to be suspicious. The Washington Police Department reported the 56-year-old missing last week. Investigators believe the abandoned house where Freeman was found was once his childhood home.
