IRS Warns Public Of Phone Scammers
(Washington, DC) -- The IRS is issuing a warning to taxpayers about a new phone scam. IRS spokesperson William Brunson says the scammers pretend to be IRS employees and use threatening tactics to make you pay back taxes. Brunson says the first thing you should do if one of these scammers calls is to hang up and then call the IRS. The Treasury office has fielded more than 90-thousand complaints and more than a 11-hundred victims have lost an estimated five-million dollars to these scams.
