Galesburg Teacher Strike Is Over
(Galesburg, IL) -- Teachers in Galesburg have their picket signs away. The Galesburg Teachers Association and the Galesburg School District's Board of Education reached a contract agreement early Thursday morning. The two sides met behind closed doors Wednesday night and didn't come out until about 3:00 yesterday morning. The new contract is for four years. Union officials say that the vote to approve the new contract was close. They also say both sides had to give a little in order to reach a deal. The district used yesterday as a teachers' institute day and students will return to class today.
