Canton Authorities Asking For Public’s Help In Apparent Arson (Canton, IL) -- Authorities in Canton are offering a reward in regard to a fire that took place at a storage shed last week in Canton. Fulton County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the arson of the storage units located at the corner of Oak Street and 8th Avenue in Canton on August 20th. Canton Police Warns Of Scam (Canton, IL) -- The Canton Police Department has been receiving complaints in regard to a company that is wanting to check sewer/septic tanks in the Canton Area. Police say the people are presenting themselves as Albama Septic Service and they are aksing to check the sewer/septic household. Canton police say there is a legitimate business based out of Alabama with the name Alabama Septic Service, they do not do any work in Illinois. Police say that if anyone comes to your door with a similar request to not let them into your home. You are asked to contact the Canton Police Department at 1-309-647-5131 to report any similar incidents.
Canton Man Charged With Violating Order Of Protection (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man was arrested earlier this week after he allegedly violated an order of protection. Canton police say they stopped a vehicle for only having one working head light in the area of North 5th Avenue and East Chestnut Street on Tuesday morning at just before 1. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as a 33-year old Canton female. The female had an active order of protection against the driver of the car, identified as 47-year old Lonnie R. Smith. Smith was then arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed for the violation of the order of protection as well as for driving a motor vehicle without insurance. Smith was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.
Police Arrest Canton Man For Public Urination (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man was arrested a Canton man was arrested earlier this week after he was observed urinating near a downtown tavern. Police say an officer observed 56-year old Danny L. Games urinating near a dumpster in the alley behind Jack's Bar on Tuesday morning at about 12:30. Authorities say that it appeared that Games was intoxicated. He was given a city ordinance violation of public urination and was then released. Games has an October Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.
Man Found In Pond Dies (Burlington, IA) -- Law enforcement in Des Moines County are investigating after a 69-year-old Burlington man was found unresponsive in a pond. The Sheriff's Office says deputies found Richard Duane Dowell Monday night. He was later pronounced dead at the Great River Medical Center. Authorities do not suspect foul play, saying it appears that Dowell drowned.
