Heat Closes Schools, Opens Cooling Centers
(Undated) -- Monday may have been the hottest day of the year across much of Illinois so far, with highs in central Illinois reaching the mid-90s and heat-index values well above a hundred. Dozens of school districts across the state are dismissing students early if buildings lack air conditioning. The Illinois Department of Human Services has set up more than 100 cooling centers around the state. The hot weather is expected to continue through today.
