Governor Signs Laws To Protect Seniors
(Undated) -- Two new laws are designed to protect senior citizens and other vulnerable adults in Illinois. The laws improve the procedures for reporting for people in nursing homes and other community settings. Senator Heather Steans sponsored one of the bills, that expands the Long Term Ombudsman Program. She says every senior deserves high quality care while their loved ones deserve to know there's going to be accountability for that care. The expansion will make sure older adults and people with disabilities living in a community setting have the same rights as those living in nursing homes. Another law creates a pilot program that will let certified nursing assistants administer medication under the supervision of a registered nurse.
