Woman Who Allegedly Faked Kidnapping Facing Federal Charges
(Springfield, IL) -- A Champaign woman who allegedly faked her own kidnapping is facing federal charges. Monica Ramirez was indicted by a grand jury earlier this week, along with the two men who allegedly helped carry the plan out. Ramirez sparked a nationwide manhunt in June when word spread that she'd been taken against her will from the Market Place Mall. She was found several days later in Houston, Texas. She allegedly orchestrated the whole scheme so she could be with her ex-boyfriend, but she didn't want her family and current boyfriend to know.
