Peoria Man Arrested (Canton, IL) -- A Peoria man was taken into custody following a traffic stop that took place in Canton earlier this week. Police say that Tuesday night at just after 7:30, the conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of East Walnut Street and South 1st Avenue after spotting a 33-year old female driver of a vehicle from Peoria talking on a cell phone. A passenger inside the vehicle was identified as 28-year old Wesley M. Harris. An investigation found that Harris was wanted for failing to register as a violent offender against youth. Harris was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on the charge. He was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown. Valid Warrant Leads To Canton Woman’s Arrest (Canton, IL) -- A Canton woman who was wanted on a valid warrant was arrested earlier this week. Canton police say they observed a vehicle being driven by 23-year old Ashley N. Burgess and knew that she was wanted on the warrant. Authorities conducted the traffic stop near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and East Elm Street. Burgess was identified as the driver after making the stop. Authorities say that she was wanted on a 2012 Fulton County Misdemeanor Warrant failure to appear pay order for domestic batter and for a 2013 Tazewell County Warrant failure to appear possession of cannabis. Burgess was arrested. The vehicle she was driving was towed from the scene. Burgess was taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed and after being unable to post bond, was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.
