Canton Man Facing Drug Charges (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing drug charges after being arrested last week. Officers say they observed a man riding a bicycle near the intersection of Van Buren and Vine Streets early Friday morning at about 12:45. Police say they tried to get the man to stop but he kept going. Officers say they observed the man throw something. After police made the stop, the man was identified by authorities as 46-year old Eddie Kalson K-9 Sheba was brought in and serached the area where he was spotting throwing something. Police found a small tin container that contained about .05 grams of pot in it. Kalson was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis under 2.5 grams. He was taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed on the charge and released after being given a notice to appear. Kalson was given a September Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Norris Woman Arrested On Public Drinking Charge (Canton, IL) -- A Norris woman was arrested after Canton police spotted her walking in the downtown area with a pitcher. Police say she was walking westbound on the southside of Elm Street at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Elm Street. After making contact with the woman, police identified her as 25-year old Tiffany Morse. Police say it was deteremined that the pitcher had beer in it and she also had a glass that was half full of beer. The police report indicated the Morse told authorities that she was trying to catch up with a group of friends and that they were going to drink the beer at friends. She was arrested and given a notice to appear and released at the scene. Morse was given a city ordinance citation for public drinking and released. Morse will have 14 days to pay a fine. If she does not pay the fine, Morse will have a September Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Traffic Stop Results In Arrest Of Canton Man (Canton, IL) -- A traffic stop in Canton last week resulted in charges against a Canton man. Canton police say they stopped a vehicle after the driver of the car disobeyed a traffic signal at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Locust Street at just before 8 on Tuesday night of last week. After making the stop in the parking lot of Papa John's Pizza locate on North Main and Vine Streets, police identified the driver as 48-year old Scott Schwab. It was deteremined that Schwab had been drinking. Officers conducted several field sobriety tests, which he allegedly failed. Schwab was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed. He was charged with DUI and DUI over .08 as well as illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver. Schwab was unable to post bond and was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown. Peoria Man Arrested For Shooting On Griswold (Peoria, IL) -- Authorities in Peoria say they arrested a man that they say shot another person last Thursday night in the neck on Griswold. Police arrested 21-year old Javon Walker shortly after the shooting that took place inside of Griswold Liquors. Walker has been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon as well as no FOID card. He was taken to the Peoria County Jail. The victim in the shooting was transported by private vehicle to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Authorities ask that anyone has information in regard to the incident to contect Peoria police by calling 1-309-673-4521 or call Peoria Area Crime Stoppers at 1-309-673-9000. Peoria Man Reaches Plea Deal For Home Invasion Charges (Peoria, IL) -- A second man taken into custody after a series of home invasions in both Peoria as well as Peoria County last year was in Peoria County Circuit Court last week. On Thursday, 21-year old Blair Johnson agreed to a plea bargain and pleaded guilty. The negotiated plea calls for the prosecution to not ask for more than 40 years of prison time. Johnson is due to be back in Peoria County Circuit Court in September to be sentenced. Woman Arrested After Posting Selfie on Social Media (West Frankfort, IL) -- It's become quite a fad to snap a picture of yourself and post it onto social media sites, but one selfie landed a West Frankfort woman in the slammer. Danielle Saxton was apparently wearing a stolen dress in the snapshot that she posted on Facebook earlier this month. Someone saw the picture and turned Saxton in just hours after the owner of Mortie's Boutique posted a shot of the dress and said someone had taken it. Police tracked Saxton down and took her in for retail theft, and on an outstanding drug warrant.
