New Boating Laws Start Next Year

(Chicago, IL) -- Illinois boaters will have three new laws on the books starting in January. The laws expand safety education, improve safety for water skiers and tubers and increase penalties for drunk boaters. Anyone born after 1998 will need to take a boating safety course before operating a motor boat. If you are towing a water skier or tuber, you'll need to have a bright orange flag to warn other boats. If you boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police can seize your boat. All of the laws take effect January 1st.
