Farm Safety Day Camp Held

(Lewistown, IL) -- The Spoon River Valley Chapter of Farm Safety For Just Kids held its annual Farm Safety Day Camp last month. The camp took place at the Mason County Fairgrounds in Havana on Friday, June 20th. It was jointly sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension in Fulton and Mason Counties, Fulton County and Mason County Farm Bureaus, Sunrise Ag and Cargill. The event was offered to area youth, free of charge. The Farm Safety Day Camp is held every year, alternating between Fulton County and Mason County as host sites. Organizers believe that all children should learn about farm safety, whether they live on a farm or perhaps visit friends or relatives who live in a rural setting. Several of the topics covered included things not just specific to farm Safety. They included Chemical Safety, Livestock Safety, Farm Machinery Safety, Fire Safety, Food Safety, Grain Bin Safety. Water Safety and Weather Safety. Approximately 130 kids and 70 adults attended the event. Lunch was prepared by the Farm Bureau Women's Committees of Fulton and Mason Counties. Every youth who attended received a free beach towel, compliments of the Spoon River Valley Chapter of Farm Safety For Just Kids.
