Bartonville Man Charges After Motorcycle Accident

(Banner, IL) -- A Bartonville man was charged after Fulton County Sheriff's deputies responded to a motorcycle accident last week. Deputies say the Sheriff's Department received a call at around 11:20 last Thursday night from a witness who told them that a motorcycle had passed them at a high rate of speed on U.S. Route 24 near Rice Lake. The witness told authorities that the motorcycle had run off the highway into the ditch and that the motorcycle and rider could no longer be seen. Rescue personnel were able to locate 41-year old Shane M. Burns and his motorcycle in the ditch a short later. Burns was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for treatment of injuries suffered in the accident. He was also charged by deputies with driving under the influence of alcohol. Other charges are pending. The Fulton County Sheriff's department was assisted in the incident by personnel from Copperas Creek Fire & Rescue and Fulton County Emergency Medical Association. Burns has an August Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.
