Kroger Buys Vitacost, Expanding Online Shopping

(Undated) -- Supermarket giant Kroger is buying vitamins to improve its Internet health. Kroger announced Wednesday that it's buying Vitacost.com, which sells vitamins and health and beauty products online. Kroger says the 280-million dollar deal will open up opportunities to get into online grocery shopping so it can compete with companies like Walmart and Amazon.com. Kroger plans to add its corporate brands to the more than 45-thousand products Vitacost sells online. Krogers has stores located in west central Illinois, including in Canton.
