Domestic Situation Leads To Two Arrests (Canton, IL) -- Two Canton women are facing charges after police in Canton were dispatched to a domestic situation earlier this week on the west side of Canton. Police say they were dispatched to the 400 block of West Locust Street Monday night at about 8:45 on a domestic battery that was in progress. Upon arrival, officers met with 49-year old Denene M. Hunt. Hunt told authorities that she had been arguing with 46-year old Shanta E. Howse about money that Hunt owed Howse for clothing. Hunt said that Howse then slapped her in the face. She then retaliated by grabbing her and knocking her glasses off, breaking them. The two then starting hitting each other and fighting. Howse allegedly bit Hunt on the right index finger and the left ring finger. Fulton County EMA was then called to the scene but Hunt refused to be treated. Both women were arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where they were processed on domestic battery charges. Hunt and Howse were later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown. Peorian Accused Of Taking Money From Business In Court On Wednesday (Peoria, IL) -- A Peorian who had been reported as missing and was later arrested after being accused of allegedly taking money from his employer made an appearance in Peoria County Circuit Court this week. On Wednesday, 37-year old Les Newton appeared in court, facing a charge of felony theft. In May, authorities asked for the public’s help in finding Newton. At that time he was seen leaving Abraham and Sons Amusements located on Detweiller Drive. Authorities say that Newton took over $500, but less than $10,000 from the business. Newton is free on bond.
