Body Discovered In Old Farmington High School Is Missing Indiana Man
(Farmington, IL) -- The body of a missing Indiana man was identified after being found nearly three weeks ago in the old Farmington High School. 35-year old Emmanuel Cervantes, of West Lafayette, had been reportedly been working in Chillicothe and was last seen leaving the work site on May 14th. Firefighters were called to The Old School Center at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 15th. He last had contact with his family on May 12th. Cervantes step-father, Randall Venis received a call from the Fulton County Coroner's office on May 30th, raising suspicions that the remains found in the old school building were those of Cervantes. Family members had reported the man missing on May 29th. An autopsy discovered that Cervantes died from smoke inhalation as there were no stab wounds, fractures or gunshot wounds found. Authorities investigating the fire say that there was evidence found at the fire site of breaking and entering. Family members are waiting to have the remains cremated until they made a decision on whether to have a second autopsy performed. Authorities in Farmington and Fulton County are asking that if anyone has any additional information about the fire or if they had contact with Cervantes on either May 14th or May 15th to contact Fulton County Crime Stoppers at 1-309-547-3939 or call the Illinois Fire Marshall's Hotline at 1-800-252-2947.
