Beware Of Ticks
(Springfield, IL) -- Tick season is coming quickly and that means people may want to be on the lookout for the pesky bugs. Public Health Spokeswoman Melaney Arnold says they're usually lurking around in grassy areas. Ticks attach themselves to skin and feed on blood. Their bites can cause things like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, so it's important to get help right away if a tick latches onto you. Nearly 500 people across the state were impacted by tick-borne illnesses last year. Anyone looking to go hiking or camping should wear closed-toed shoes, long sleeves, and pants. And, be sure to use bug spray when you're outside.
