Canton Teen Arrested Following Traffic Stop (Canton, IL) -- Canton police arrested a Canton teen after a traffic stop that occurred over the weekend. Police say they stopped a vehicle driven by 18-year old Joseph S. Wittmer near the intersection of West Locust Street and Avenue B Saturday morning at about 12:30. Police say they had been patrolling in the area of Spruce and Main Streets when they observed a southbound vehicle with a head light that was out. After making the stop, police identified the driver as 18-year old Joseph S. Wittmer. An investigation found that Wittmer had a suspended driver's license and he was also wanted on a 2012 Fulton County Traffic Warrant, failure to appear driving an uninsured motor vehicle. Wittmer was then arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed. He posted a total of $470 and was released with a June Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.

Squealing Tires Leads To Traffic Stop Arrest (Canton, IL) -- A traffic stop in Canton resulted in the arrest of a Canton man last week. Police say they stopped the vehicle near the intersection of East Chestnut Street and 4th Avenue after the driver of the vehicle squealed the tires Friday night at just after 7:30. After making the stop, police identified the driver as 53-year old Ricky E. Hickman. Hickman gave police a restricted driving permit but an investigation found that the restricted driving permit had expired. He was then cited for driving with a suspended driver's license. Police also cited Hickman for driving an uninsured motor vehicle after he was unable to provide the officer with proof of insurance. He was released at the scene and given a June Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Canton Man Cited For Dogs Barking (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man was cited after police were dispatched to a residence on Avenue B for barking dogs. Police say they went to the home located in the 500 block of Avenue B on Saturday afternoon at just before 4:45 and met with the resident of the home, 29-year old Justin T. Schoon after they received a complaint from a neighbor about dogs that had been barking day and night. After talking to Schoon, police cited him for noises prohibited, barking dogs. He was given a notice to appear and released at the scene with a June Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Peoria Man Turns Self In To Authorities In Canton (Canton, IL) -- A Peoria man wanted on a valid warrant turned himself in to Canton police last week. 45-year old Jonas C. Williams was wanted on a 2013 Fulton County Warrant for two counts of DUI. Williams was arrested and processed for the warrants while at the Canton Police Department. He posted a $650 cash bond and a $20 processing fee before being released. Williams was then given a June Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Decorated Peoria Police Officer Indicted By Peoria County Grand Jury (Peoria, IL) -- A Peoria police officer, in March was acquitted of a criminal sexual assault charge, was indicted by a Peoria County Grand Jury for the unauthorized video recording in another case. The officer, John McCavitt, was indicted on Tuesday on two counts of unauthorized video recording. The charges are aggravated child pornography and child pornography. He is currently on unpaid administrative leave from the Peoria Police Department. He is due in Peoria County Circuit Court on Thursday. Lawsuit Coming After Fake Twitter Account Arrest (Peoria, IL) -- The drama surrounding a fake Twitter account in Peoria is far from over. The ACLU is planning to file a lawsuit against city officials for arresting John Daniel last month. Daniel created the fake account under the Peoria mayor's name and allegedly posted sexually explicit comments and others that talked about drug usage. Police raided his home and confiscated just about all of Daniel's electronic devices. The ACLU says that was a violation of his First and Fourth Amendment rights. Peorian Indicted On Drug Charges (Peoria, IL) -- The only individual that was charged after a police search of a home in regard to the parody case of the mayor's twitter account was indicted by a grand jury. 36-year old Jake Elliott was indicted on Tuesday by a Peoria County Grand Jury. He is facing a charge of misdemeanor possession of marijuana as well as one felony count. He was charged after police searched the home located on North University that was part of the twitter account investigation when police found marijuana. Elliott is currently out of jail after posting bond. He is due back in Peoria County Circuit Court on Thursday.
