Democrats Banking On Tax Rate Extension
(Springfield, IL) -- It looks like lawmakers are banking on keeping the five-percent income tax rate in place. Democrats say it's the only way to make sure things like education and prisons are properly funded. The interesting thing about that is that is there isn't enough support in the House to pass a bill aimed at extending the tax hike. They'll need to do that to make sure the rate doesn't automatically roll back in January. Lawmakers are required by law to pass a balanced budget by May 31st.
