SRC Graduation Held Saturday
(Canton, IL) -- Spoon River College celebrated its 53rd Commencement Ceremony on Saturday at the Cuba Middle-Senior High School. A total of 334 students applied for graduation during the 2013-2014 academic year, with 144 students walking through the ceremony on Saturday. Every year during the commencement ceremony, Spoon River College presents awards to outstanding students for their achievements while at Spoon River College. The following individuals were recognized this year: The Career/Technical Education Student of the Year award is presented each year to a student who has academically excelled in pursuit of a degree or certificate from one of the College’s Career/Technical Education programs. This year’s winner is Kody Horn of Carthage, who received his Associate in Applied Science degree in diesel and power systems technology. Horn maintained a 4.0 GPA in his major and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for students in two-year colleges. To become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, a student must have 12 credit hours of completed enrollment at Spoon River College and a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Three Phi Theta Kappa members were recognized for their achievement in being named to the All-Illinois Academic Team. They were Scott Anderson of Cuba, Katelyn Riehl of Fairview, and Amanda Wrenn of Good Hope.
