Galesburg Firefighters Recognized In Springfield Ceremony

(Springfield, IL) -- A firefighter from Galesburg was one of several firemen who were honored in Springfield recently. Captain Derek Perry was given the "Medal of Honor" in Springfield during a ceremony. Its the highest state honor. Last year, Perry went into a burning home where he rescued a three year old boy that was trapped inside. During last year's ceremony, Perry was awarded the "Medal of Valor". During the ceremony, Perry's partner was also honored. Matt Lewis was wa also recognized for his service to the City of Galesburg with the "Firefighter Excellence Award".
