Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing drug charges after Canton police conducted a traffic stop in Canton over the weekend. Police say they stopped the vehicle near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Oak Street Sunday morning at just after 12:35 for having an expired registration tag. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 33-year old Samuel E. Chambers. Police say their investigation found that Chambers had a suspended driver's license at the time of the stop. He was then arrested for driving a motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license. Authorities also found that Chambers was in possession of a small amount of pot. While searching the vehicle, authorities found a plastic baggie that contained three smaller plastic baggies that had marijuana inside of them. Chambers was charged with intent to deliver cannabis between 10 and 30 grams, driving with a suspended driver's license and possession of drug paraphernalia. After being taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed, Chambers was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown. Canton Police Arrest Lewistown Man (Canton, IL) -- A traffic stop in Canton over the weekend resulted in the arrest of a Lewistown man. Police say they stopped a truck at the intersection of 5th Avenue and East Elm Street Saturday afternoon at just after 3:15. While investigating, officers detected an odor of pot coming from the truck. A passenger in the truck identified as 46-year old Todd R. Graham was found to be in possession of marijuana and a glass pipe used to smoke pot. Graham was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed on charges of possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a notice to appear and released with a June Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Also cited was the driver, 30-year old Christina M. Applebert, for not having proof of insurance for the vehicle. She was given a notice to appear and released at the scene, also with a June Fulton County Court date. Police Make Arrest In Battery Complaint (Canton, IL) -- A battery complaint last week resulted in the arrest of a Canton man. Police say they were dispatched to the 200 block of South 1st Avenue Thursday afternoon at about 12:45 on the complaint. Police say they met with the complainant, a 27-year old Canton male at the scene. He was found to have a laceration above and below the left eye. Police say the altercation was over who owned a Television. The argument led to 51-year old Douglas L. Burks allegedly punching the complainant in the face. Burks was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on a battery charge. Burks posted a $150 cash bond and a $20 processing fee and was then released. He was then given a May Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Canton Man Turns Himself In On Valid Warrant (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man wanted on a valid warrant turned hhimself into Canton police over the weekend. 21-year old Andrew J. Kaufman entered the Canton Police Department on Saturday afternoon at just after 3:30 to turn himself in on a 2013 Fulton County Traffic Warrant for driving with a suspended driver's license. After being arrested and processed, Kaufman posted a $300 cash bond and a $20 processing fee. Kaufman was then released after being given a June Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. Peoria Boy Struck By Truck Monday Morning Declared Brain Dead (Peoria, IL) -- Officials at a Peoria hospital where an 11 year old boy who was struck Monday morning by a pick up truck have declared him brain dead. Trever Chick was struck by the truck after he apparently ran out between a CityLink bus and a car Monday morning attempting to cross NE Monroe Street between Mary and Caroline Streets. The boy was taken to Children's Hospital of Illinois for treatment. The family of the young boy are pursuing organ donation. After that, an autopsy will take place. Police are continuing to look into the accident but say they do not plan on charging the driver of the truck after reviewing video from the CityLink bus as well as hearing witnesses accounts who all have said that the boy ran out into the street between vehicles. A Candlelight Vigil is set to take place tonight near the corner of Monroe and Caroline at 6 p.m. Pekin Girl Involved In Car/Pedestrian Accident In Good Condition (Pekin, IL) -- The victim of a car/pedestrian accident in Pekin earlier this week remains hospitalized in Peoria. The 10-year old Pekin girl was struck by a car Monday afternoon while crossing 14th Street at the Koch Street intersection. Police say the girl was waiting to cross 14th when a driver of a vehicle waved for her to cross. A northbound car then struck the girl as she was crossing the street. The girl was reportedly thrown about 40 feet into the air, landing in a yard that was nearby. Police say they have not issued any tickets. The girl is being treated at Children's Hospital of Illinois and is in good condition. Normal Fire Ruled Accidental (Normal, IL) -- Investigators looking into a fire over the weekend in Normal say it was accidental. Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at an apartment located at 104 Kenwood Court in Normal Saturday afternoon at about 2. Firefighters say that the blaze that started on the second floor, quickly spread to the roof of the building. Investigators say that the fire started in an area where four electric cords were plugged into a 6 way adapter. As a result of the fire, four families had to find other living arrangements.
