(Undated) -- Illinois is far from one of the best states to retire. A new study conducted by Bankrate shows the Land of Lincoln ranked 26 out of the 50 states as best places for retirement. Factors used in the study include cost of living, crime rate, quality of healthcare, local tax burden and weather. The top of the list for retirement states is South Dakota and the dubious distinction for the worst state goes to New York.
