Judge Gives Governor Deadline To Respond To Lawsuit

(Chicago, IL) -- A federal judge said today that Governor Pat Quinn has until June 6th to respond to a lawsuit demanding an investigation of his hiring practices. In his lawsuit, attorney Michael Shakman cites a Better Government Association report which alleges that Quinn ignored political hiring prohibitions in filling hundreds of positions in the Department of Transportation. Quinn's office has said it has zero tolerance for violating hiring procedures and it has taken steps to properly classify jobs that had been mistakenly listed as exempt from the hiring rules. The state's inspector general is investigating and the dispute has become a campaign issue between Quinn and challenger Bruce Rauner.
