Retail Theft Charges Filed Against Canton Woman
(Canton, IL) -- A Canton woman is facing retail theft charges for allegedly taking items from Walmart in Canton. Authorities say they responded to Walmart Saturday night at just before 7:15 in regard to a woman being detained by store loss prevention personnel. Police say that the total amount of items that were allegedly taken by 20-year old Rebecca S. Reyes was $162.55. Reyes was given a notice to appear at the scene and was released after being charged with retail theft. She has a January Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.
Domestic Situation Leads To Charges Against Canton Man
(Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing multiple charges after Canton police responded to a domestic complaint over the weekend. Canton police say they responded to an address in the 800 block of East Elm Street Saturday morning at just after midnight. Police met with the victim, a 25-year old Canton female. The victim told authorities that she locked herself in the basement of the home to keep away from her boyfriend. She informed police that her boyfriend, identified as 35-year old Eric L. Laswell had allegedly threw her around by her arms. Police say the victim did have bruises on the back of both arms and also a 2-inch long cut on her back. Laswell was arrested after an investigation and charged with domestic battery. He was taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed. While he was enroute to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown, Laswell allegedly made physical threats to officers. Once at the jail, he allegedly charged officers multiple times. In addition to the domestic battery charge, Laswell was also charged with aggravated assault to a police officer.
Seven Arrested For Underage Drinking In Canton
(Canton, IL) -- Seven Canton teens are facing underage drinking charges after being arrested over the weekend in Canton. Police say they responded to a loud noise complaint at a residence in the 200 block of East Linn Street Sunday morning at just after 1. Police say they arrested 19-year olds Joselph S. Dux and Devantae D. Berry and 18-year old Dakota J. Hook. Three 17-year olds were also arrested, two from Canton and one from Maquon, and a 16-year old Canton male was also arrested. All seven have been charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor, a city ordinance citation. They were all given a notice to appear at the scene and released. They will have two weeks to pay a fine or face February Fulton County Court dates in Lewistown.
Woman Treated After Tuesday Peoria Fire
(Peoria, IL) -- A Fire Tuesday afternoon in Peoria forced a woman inside the home to flee for her life. Peoria Firefighters say the fire occurred at about 2 yesterday afternoon at a home in the 2900 block of West Nevada Street. The woman was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria to be treated. Crews were able to get the fire under control. Just what caused the fire and the amount of damage that it caused is undetermined. Peoria Fire Investigators say they do not suspect foul play in the blaze.
Fight At Peoria Middle School Injures Student & Teacher
(Peoria, IL) -- A fight at a Peoria Elementary School earlier this week injured a teacher and a student. Peoria School District 150 officials say that a fight between students took place just after lunch on Monday at Lincoln Middle School. Officials say they believe at least six students were involved in the fight. Police at the scene had to use pepper spray to stop the fight. Officials say that none of the injuries were serious.
Twelve Year Sentence In DUI Crash That Killed Cop
(Pontiac, IL) -- A South Carolina man has been sentenced to twelve years in prison for a drunk driving crash that killed a Pontiac police officer and his police dog last year. Jason Collins of West Columbia, South Carolina, pleaded guilty in August to aggravated DUI and reckless homicide for slamming into Officer Casey Kohlmeier's SUV as it was parked on an interstate median. Kohlmeier's parents have filed a wrongful death suit against Collins, his employer and the bar where he'd been drinking before the crash.
