Steps To Reduce Home Fire Deaths

(Undated) -- Nationwide more than 23-hundred people die and nearly 13-thousand are injured in home fires each year. While changing smoke detector batteries is an important part of fire safety, Anne Marie Borrego with the American Red Cross says your family's escape plan is just as important. This month, the Red Cross kicked off a national campaign to reduce deaths and injuries from house fires by as much as 25-percent over the next five years. A recent Red Cross survey found most people think they have at least five minutes to escape a burning home, when in reality they only have about two minutes to get out.
