Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest
(Canton, IL) -- A Pekin man is facing charges after Canton police conducted a traffic stop earlier this week. Police say they stopped the vehicle near the intersection of North 7th Avenue and East Chestnut Street Wednesday night at just after 11 after spotting it didn't have a working taillight near the intersection of East Elm Street and 1st Avenue. The driver was identified as 30-year old Robin E. Bowler. An investigation and search of the driver found that he was in possession of three pills identified as Hydrocodone. The pills had been cut in half. Bowler was then arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed. Bowler refused to be fingerprinted or photographed. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, obstructing a peace officer as well as driving a motor vehicle with no taillights. The Fulton County State's Attorney's office is reviewing whether the vehicle can be seized. Bowler was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.
Two Arrest After Police Respond To Suspicious Vehicle Report
(Canton, IL) -- Two people are facing charges after Canton police were dispatched to apartments located on East Elm Street on the report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the complex. When police arrived, they found three people inside the vehicle. A man identified as 29-year old Adam G. Titus exited the vehicle and when he did, Titus allegedly dropped a glass hitter pipe used to smoke pot onto the ground. Titus was arrested and charged with a city ordinance citation of possession of drug paraphernalia. He will have 14 days to pay a fine or face a November Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as 26-year old Sherrick L. Blackwell of Peoria. Blackwell initially gave officers a false identification and birth date. During their investigation, she was identified as Blackwell. She was found to be wanted on a Peoria County Traffic Warrant, failure to appear for traffic offenses. She was taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed for the warrant. She posted a $300 cash bond and a $20 processing fee. Blackwell was then released and given a November Peoria County Court date in Peoria.
Pekin Man Captured After Fleeing Courtroom
(Peoria, IL) -- A Pekin man who was found guilty by a Peoria County Circuit Court jury but failed to return to the courtroom when the verdict was read on Wednesday has been captured. Brian Patterson was taken into custody Thursday morning at Illinois Route 6 and Knoxville in Peoria. He was captured by Peoria police, Peoria County Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshalls. He is scheduled to be sentenced in regard to the Peoria County business burglaries in December. Patterson is also facing similar charges in Tazewell County Circuit Court next week.
Former Band Director Enters Guilty Plea
(Peoria, IL) -- The former band director at Roosevelt Magnet School in Peoria was in Peoria County Circuit Court on Thursday. 34-year old Maury Beelman entered an open plea of guilty yesterday to a charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Authorities say that Beelman had an alleged sexual relationship with a teen girl. The relationship allegedly started when the girl was in the 8th grade but didn't turn sexual until she was a sophomore in high school. The sexual relationship continued until she graduated. Beelman is due to be back in Peoria County Circuit Court in December to be sentenced.
Authorities Looking For Suspect In Robbery/Burglary Case
(Hanna City, IL) -- Authorities in Peoria County are looking for suspects who robbed and burglarized a Hanna City business. Authorities say the suspect entered the Fast Stop located in Hanna City on Friday, October 10th, holding a gun to the head of an employee. The suspect then struck the employee on the back of the head and left the building. That same business was then burglarized several days later. Authorities do not believe that the incidents are related.
Accident Kills Elderly Woman
(Warren County, IL) -- An elderly Abingdon woman is dead, while another Abingdon driver was hurt following a two vehicle accident that occurred in Warren County on Thursday. Illinois State Police say that 85 year old Shirley Bradshaw pulled from a private drive into the path of a vehicle driven by 25-year old Sharayah Snyder. Bradshaw died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. A 3-year old passenger in the Snyder vehicle was seriously injured in the accident. Authorities say that Bradshaw was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, but the occupants in the Snyder vehicle were properly wearing restraints.
