Time To Test Smoke Alarms

October 10, 2014

(Springfield, IL)  --  State Fire Marshal Larry Matkaitis is reminding people to check their fire alarms and make sure they're working properly.   Matkaitis says people should hit the test button on their alarms at least once-a-month to make sure the batteries are still good.  He says if your alarm goes off every time you cook, you should look into getting a photoelectric smoke detector in that area.  Matkaitis says smoke alarms should be replaced every ten years from the date it was manufactured.
