State BOE Offers State Seal Of Biliteracy To Students Proficient In More Than One Language
(Undated) -- Students in west central Illinois and for that matter the rest of the state who are proficient in more than one language will now have the chance to earn a "State Seal of Biliteracy". Illinois is one of the first states in the country to offer the seal to students who show a very strong grasp of a foreign language. Illinois Board of Education spokesperson, Mary Fergus, says they want to honor the hard work of these students. Students hoping to earn the seal will be tested and prove their proficiency through other means. Schools will have to opt to participate in the program.
