(Canton, IL) -- A Canton native best known for his work with NASA as an astronaut has died. 67-year old Steve Nagel lost his battle with cancer Thursday night. Nagel flew four space flights with NASA. Those space flights occured in 1985, 1991 and 1993. He became an astronaut in 1979. Nagel then retired from NASA in 1995. Nagel was married to fellow former astronaut Linda Godwin. He was working as a professor at the University of Missouri at the time of his death. Nagel was the 100th astronaut to fly in space.
