(Canton, IL) -- Canton's Night Out is set to take place tonight in the downtown area. It is a program that is dedicated to crime prevention and safety for family members of all ages and is in observance of National Night Out which is a network of community leaders, law enforcement officials and volunteers hosting similar events in thousands of communities across the country. Cheryl Bielema, the President of Canton Main Street says that its a way for residents of Canton to meet neighbors. National Night Out, "America's Night Out Against Crime" started in 1984. Its an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
